John O. Swenson journal. 1885-1887.

The collection covers John O. Swenson's experiences while serving an Mormon mission to the Northwest States Mission from 1885 to 1887. Swenson describes his daily activies, including his proselytizing efforts, contact with other religious denominations, and hardships endured. He describes his travel to and from the mission field, daily travel, and visits to Chicago, St. Louis, and the 1885 Minnesota State Fair. He also records hymns written by the Mission President (William M. Palmer) as well as sermons and counsel given. Also included in the journal are records of travel expenses, baptisms performed, and meetings and mission conferences held.
